We are offering students in years 9 - 11 plus post 16 and foundation level students the opportunity to see an inspirational collection of final-year work across fifteen exhibitions, located in our purpose-built creative spaces and stunning flagship buildings. We are also offering an exciting programme of art and design awareness sessions during the degree show period across our NTU city site, including tours of the shows and an opportunity to meet current NTU students.
I’m a Scientist is like school science lessons meet the X Factor! School students choose which scientist gets a prize of £500 to communicate their work. Scientists and students talk on the website. They both break down barriers, have fun and learn. But only the students get to vote. Only students, teachers and scientists who are taking part in the event can talk on the site, but everyone is welcome to look around and see what’s happening. In 2010 the event was bigger than ever before, with 20 zones! There’s five scientists in each zone, talking to 20 classes of students. So that’s 100 scientists and 5,000 students altogether this June. Ten zones are general, with scientists working on all different topics. Ten zones are themed, where the scientists’ work all overlaps in some way. Scientists and teachers are invited to register now.

Whether you are designing a product or a building it is important that you know how your chosen material will react when it is under pressure. The School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment has designed a fun and educational day for budding designers to learn how different materials react with pressure applied through pulling or compression. Students will learn the theory of tensile and compression testing and undertake some of their own tests before watching the experts put some everyday materials through their paces. This interactive day is ideal for a variety of learners including level 3 engineers and year 11 or 12 students interested in product design, engineering and construction.
This free event is aimed at schools, local authorities, architects, designers and anyone else interested or involved with sustainable school design and operation. The event will encourage interactive participation, discussion and the exchange of ideas related to all aspects that contribute to a sustainable school
Would you like to be a teacher? Do you want to study one of your design and technology A-Level subjects at university? If you’ve answered yes to any of the above then this is a great opportunity to find out how you can combine these in higher education studies at Nottingham Trent University. This free event is aimed at Year 12 students who are invited to find out about becoming a teacher in a secondary school. The focus of the day is design and technology teaching, where students will have the opportunity to take part in practical workshops with NTU academics who deliver on our teaching courses.
Primary Engineer is a complete Primary Transition / Liaison Project for secondary Design Technology, Science and Maths teachers. Workshops initiated through secondary school hubs build strong departmental
links and help to ensure effective Primary-Secondary transition. Core to the courses are the application of Maths, Science and ICT to Design Technology providing a practical cross-curricular approach.
The programme is designed to save secondary school both time and money by providing a programme and resources to link with their primary schools.
The Primary Engineer courses are primarily aimed at secondary teachers who wish to roll out a proven primary liaison project with their family of primary schools, although primary teachers who wish to develop their Design and Technology skills can attend too. Teachers attend a 1 day hands-on workshop in the key skills, knowledge and understanding which will help build an understanding of 'primary engineering'. This enables them to work with and support Primary Teachers to deliver practical Maths and Science through Design and Technology to pupils aged 4-11yrs
The conference provides a forum in which STEM educators from across the East Midlands can discuss and learn from each other in a range of formal and informal settings. It is specifically designed to: support secondary leaders/teachers with implementation of integrated STEM activities and curriculum promote links between subjects create opportunities for sharing good practice and networking across the East Midlands region
