The East Midlands STEM Partnership would like to congratulate Sir John Holman, National Director of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Head of the National Science Learning Centre (NSLC), on receiving a knighthood in the New Year Honours list.
Cathy Brown, Regional Director, East Midlands STEMNET said: “I am delighted that John Holman has been recognised for the work he has done in championing science education and, more recently, STEM Cohesion. I was especially pleased when Sir John showed his support for our work in the East Midlands by delivering the keynote speech at our STEM Partnership Forum Event in November 2008. The East Midlands STEM Partnership looks forward to strengthening the relationship that is developing with the national STEM Cohesion team that Sir John leads.”
Sir John told BBC News: "I'm delighted; it's an enormous personal honour and somewhat overwhelming, but more importantly I think that it's a recognition of the importance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to the future of the UK and to the lives of millions of young people."
