The Engineering Development Trust (EDT) STEM Programme aims to develop an integrated programme of work-related engineering and technology activities that's available to 13 to 21-year-olds across the East Midlands. It provides challenging opportunities to young people interested in engineering and gives them an insight into what it’s like to work in an engineering or technology business in the region.
EDT delivers Year In Industry to give students challenging six-month or one-year work placements with science and technology companies. It also offers the Engineering Education Scheme, which links four Year 12 students and their teacher with local companies, working on real scientific, engineering and technological problems that help resolve a genuine business need.
Through Headstart courses, EDT enables Year 12 students to spend up to a week at university prior to making their UCAS application. The aim is to encourage students interested in maths or science to consider technology careers.
Finally, EDT promotes Go4SET, an initiative linking teams of Year 9 pupils with companies and universities to offer an eight-week science, engineering and technology experience.
